Each month has a flower or two which symbolizes birth. The violet, also called primrose, with viola as its botanical name, is a floweing plant with heart shaped leaves that often has a purple color to it.
Violets are generally found and grown in the Northern Hemisphere of the world, but can also be found in Hawaii and the Andes.
That there is such a thing as "Violet" Tea?
Traditionally, a violet tea was a spring event, held when the flowers are in bloom. As violets are among the most delicate of flowers, the Edwardian violet tea was presented in a very dainty fashion. All food was especially light and miniaturized, with bite sized scones and open-faced sandwiches flavored with violet jelly or crystallized violets.
Violet tea is said to evoke memories and also for medicinal purposes...it is said to help soothe congestion, sore throats, and respiratory infections. The scent and taste of the violet tea was once fit for a queen but now recipes for these are readily available.
That there is a poem entitled "The Violet" by Jane Taylor?
Down in a green and shady bed,
A modest violet grew;
It's stalk was bent, it hung its head
As if to hide from view.
And yet it was a lovely flower,
It's colour bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
Instead of hiding there.
Yet thus it was content to bloom,
In modest tints arrayed;
And there diffused a sweet perfume,
Within the silent shade.
Then let me to the valley go
This pretty flower to see;
That I may also learn to grow
In sweet humility.
