The Yellow Ribbon

Yesterday marked the 26th death anniversary of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino,  the husband of Corazon Cojuangco.

The yellow ribbon became a symbol for the revolution that toppled the Marcos dictatorship. As our Icon of Democracy Pres. Cory Aquino passed away, a song was dedicated to her made by Jun and Mitch Morata.

So here is the video…

and the lyrics…enjoy listening…

THE YELLOW RIBBON
Music by: Mitch Morala
Lyrics Written by: Jun Morala

TAKE OUT THOSE CANDLES FROM THE CLOSET
AND TIE A YELLOW RIBBON AROUND IT
LIGHT IT UP AND LINE IT ON THE STREETS
TO BRIGHTEN UP OUR DREAMS AND HOPES ONCE MORE

A LIFE WAS ONCE LAID OUT FOR US
SO THAT FREEDOM CAN BE OURS
TO KEEP FOR LONG
AND FROM THE TYRANTS WE WERE FREED

BUT TIME CAME SWEEPING BY
AND SACRIFICES SEEM TO BE FORGOTTEN
THE DREAMS WERE SLOWLY FADING
AS OUR HOPES BECOME UNREAL
LIKE A WISHFUL SHOOTING STAR
ALWAYS UNREACHABLE FROM WHERE WE ARE

SO LET THOSE CANDLES SHINE SO BRIGHT
EVEN AS IT MELTS & THE RIBBONS FALL
REST IT ON A SACRED GROUND
LIKE A ROBIN IN ITS MOTHER’S
(TENDER) ARMS

THE LIFE THAT WAS LAID OUT FOR US
SO THAT FREEDOM CAN BE OURS KEEP FOR LONG
WAS NEVER MEANT TO FADE AWAY

BUT TIME CAME SWEEPING BY
AND SACRIFICES SEEM TO BE FORGOTTEN
THE DREAMS WERE SLOWLY FADING
AS OUR HOPES BECOME UNREAL
LIKE A WISHFUL SHOOTING STAR
ALWAYS UNREACHABLE FROM WHERE WE ARE

THAT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE
AND FOREVER THERE WILL BE
THERE WILL ALWAYS EVER BE

A YELLOW RIBBON ALL AROUND THE STREETS
RADIANT AS A GUIDING STAR

AND NEVER WILL THERE BE A BLOOD TO SHED.
